List z Gaza City

Dearest Anne,

I wish youre well. The time is 9:25 p.m. in Gaza City now; Im at my office for my evening work shift. Im totally confused and very sad for the death of many innocent Palestinians, who are killed by the Israeli occupation forces in Rafah on the Gaza-Egypt border. Up to this moment 21 Palestinians were shot to death, scores were also injured. Three children, including a 13-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister, were reportedly among the dead.

Tens of Palestinian houses were demolished and hundreds of houses are to be leveled to the ground within the upcoming few days, under the Israeli pretext that theyre used to smuggle weapons into Gaza from Egypt.

The Israeli tanks and bulldozers, backed by helicopter gunships moved into Rafah in the pre-dawn hours, one day after soldiers isolated the area from the rest of the Strip and massive troop numbers were deployed in the region.

As a pacifist and someone who believes in co-existence, I felt so depressed, although I try my best to be optimistic. Yes, I felt depressed as I heard many Palestinians have just been shouting at the top of their voices Death to Israel, Death to Israel.... So, Israel by killing Palestinian civilians is inculcating in the Palestinian childrens minds that peace can never be achieved between the two peoples.

And, I do agree with Yosi Sarid, a member in the Israeli opposition party, who expressed it well today saying that the Palestinian schoolboys who are running from the Israeli tanks carrying their school bags in Rafah, will one day become suicide bombers in the future...[hinting that theyll avenge these brutal crimes] and he described the Israeli large-scale operation in Rafah as illegal.

To me, I believe that the same will happen with the Israeli children who will witness a Palestinian blowing himself up on the board of a bus or inside a restaurant, in retaliation for the Israeli crimes, and then those children will become soldiers in the future. Ooops! I forgot to tell you something, in Israel the military service is compulsory for both males and females. So, it would give any Israeli to discharge the grudge or hate he has toward Palestinians by killing them in cold blood.

HERE the DISASTER starts and the VICIOUS CYCLE of VIOLENCE continues and nobody can ever find a way out ot it.

I here WONDER, where are the 150,000 Israelis from the leftist party, who staged a rally in Tel Aviv some days ago, calling for the withdrawal of the Israeli forces from Gaza Strip in the wake of the Palestinian victory in which the Palestinian freedom fighters managed to kill 12 Israeli soldiers of the mightiest army in the entire Middle East, when the Israeli troops penetrated into the PA-controlled areas to tear down Palestinian houses.

By writing these thoughts, I am easing my conscience and I hope I find other voices from the other side calling for peaceful co-existence. Let the other side do what they want and have their rights. Life is so short to be wasted over conflicts.

Mam nadzieje ze masz się dobrze. Jest godzina 21.25, jestem w biurze w Gaza City na nocnej zmianie. Trudno wyrazić słowami jak się teraz czuje. Ogarnia mnie wielki smutek. Wielu niewinnych Palestyńczyków zginęło w efekcie akcji izraelskich sił okupacyjnych w Rafah- przy granicy z Egiptem. Media podają, że nie żyje 21 osób, a wielu zostało ciężko rannych. Troje dzieci- w tym 13-letni chłopiec i jego 16-letnia siostra są wśród zabitych.
Dziesiątki palestyńskich domów już zostało doszczętnie  zniszczonych , a setki mają być zrównane z ziemią w przeciągu kilku dni. A wszystko to pod pretekstem rzekomego przemytu broni z Egiptu do Strefy Gazy.

Izraelskie czołgi i buldożery, wspierane z powietrza przez śmigłowce bojowe wkroczyły do Rafah o świcie. Dzień po tym, jak żołnierze otoczyli teren rozmieszczając wokół masywne wojska.

Jako pacyfista i ktoś, kto wierzy we wspólne życie Palestyńczyków i Żydów, jestem głęboko przygnębiony, chociaż staram się jak mogę być optymistą. Czułem się okropnie słysząc moich rodaków, którzy krzyczeli ile sił w płucach „Śmierć Izraelowi! Śmierć Izraelowi...” Czy Izrael zdaje sobie sprawę, że zabijając naszych cywilów wpaja w umysły palestyńskich dzieci przekonanie, ze osiągnięcie pokoju jest niemożliwe?

Zgadzam się z Yosim Saridem- członkiem izraelskiej partii opozycyjnej, który dziś stwierdził, że „palestyńskie dzieci z torbą szkolną na ramieniu, uciekające w Rafah przed żydowskimi czołgami, w niedalekiej przyszłości zasilą szeregi zamachowców samobójców” (sugerując, że pomszczą te brutalne zbrodnie). Co więcej, Sarid uznał Izraelska operacje w Rafah za nielegalną.

Sam uważam, że analogiczny los czeka żydowskie dzieci, które zobaczą Palestyńczyka wysadzającego się w autobusie albo w restauracji pełnej ludzi w odwecie za izraelskie zbrodnie. Te dzieci zostaną w przyszłości żołnierzami. Poza tym służba wojskowa w Izraelu obejmuje zarówno kobiety jak i mężczyzn, więc nikogo nie ominie okazja demonstracji nienawiści do Palestyńczyków, poprzez zabijanie z zimną krwią.

To tutaj rozpoczyna się ta wielka tragedia, a błędne koło przemocy trwa w najlepsze i nikt nie potrafi go zatrzymać.

A ja w tym czasie zastanawiam się gdzie jest te 150 tysięcy Izraelczyków wspierających partię lewicową, którzy zorganizowali kilka dni temu wiec w Tel Avivie, żądając wycofania izraelskich wojsk ze Strefy Gazy. Swoją drogą to było przebudzenie w odpowiedzi na zwycięstwo Palestyńczyków, którym udało się zabić 12 izraelskich żołnierzy najpotężniejszej armii na Bliskim Wschodzie, po tym jak izraelskie wojska wkroczyły w strefę kontrolowaną przez Administrację Palestyńską 
Pisząc te słowa staram się uspokoić swoje sumienie. Mam nadzieję usłyszeć głosy z tej drugiej strony, nawołujące do pokojowej współegzystencji.  Pozwólmy innym robić to co chcą i mieć swoje prawa. Nie warto marnować czasu na konflikty. Życie jest na to za krótkie.
